The Age of Romance
Conceived of and written by Karyn Levitt

THE NEW MOON
Dainty wisp of thistledown
On a summer evening
You’ll be near some cavalier
Dainty wisp of thistledown
Vaguer than the mist

Magic for maidens to wear
When they’re young and fair
And want to be kissed
Delicate, gossamer charm
Is made to be crushed in a lover’s arm

About the Show
The Age of Romance harkens back to the golden era of early Broadway, musical theatre, and the silver screen. Love and romance abound with music made popular by Gordon McRae, Kathryn Grayson, Nelson Eddie, and Jeanette MacDonald.

The Age of Romance is partly inspired by the music of a distant relative of Ms. Levitt’s: Hungarian composer Sigmund Romberg. As a child Romberg studied composition in Hungary and then moved to the United States as a young man. He played the piano in cafés until he began publishing songs, writing music for Broadway, and eventually writing his best-known operettas in the 1920s. Some of his best loved songs, included in the Age of Romance, are from his shows, The New Moon and The Desert Song.

The repertoire also includes music by composers Johann Strauss, Victor Herbert, Franz Lehar, Jerome Kern, and Wright and Forrest, with hit songs from Naughty Marietta, The Merry Widow, Roberta, Showboat, and Kismet.

The Age of Romance sweeps away you away to a time of courtship, adventure, and twisty plots; of heroes, heroines, and derring-do — all glittering under the starry skies of love.
